The daughter of Nodonn, born in the First Age, her mother was an elf of the nobles of Fingolfin and she was raised in Barad Eithel.
After the Dagor Bragollach she was sent to the havens of Sirion .
After the War of Wrath, she was approached by Eonwe , herald of the Valar who told her she was his blood, his grandaughter, by his long vanished son, Nodonn, she had believed that her father was a captain of Fingolfins who died in the battle of Sudden Flame , but the truth was that Noddon had seduced her mother, and Liriel told no-one. Feeling grief and guilt, after that terrible battle she faded and died.
Ishtar spoke long to Eonwe and asked where her father was, determined to spend all her life seeking him, and not to go into the West . Actually, she did not have to wait all that length of time.
She settled in Lindon, with Gil Galads people, and early in the Second Age a stranger visited her, declaring himself to be her father. Although their was astrange relationship, Nodonn trained her and taught her much. He also told her to go to Rivendell when it was founded and this she did.
