History
Elrohir II and his twin sister Elemmire were born in Imladris in 1810th year of the third age. He was called Ellroher shortly after he was born by his uncle Elladan, who called him that so he could tell the diffrence in who he was talking to. The name stuck. So Elrohir II was known as Ellroher from then on. Ellroher grew up and lived in Imladris, learning how to fight and of Elven lore.
One day, when Ellroher was very young, he met a fair elf lady. Lady Alatariel. Alatariel would tell him stories of ancient battles and kingdoms when Middle Earth was young. He liked being with Alatariel. She always had time to help him with his studying, teach him archery, and tell him of Elven lore when other were too busy.
As Ellroher grew he developed a love of two things, horses and weapons. He loved to go out riding through the valley of Rivendell. He became very skilled with horses and could almost tell what they were thinking. He also loved weapons, but in particular, ancient Elven weapons. He took to studying smithing and would travel to nearby Dwarf smiths to learn the ways of the forge.
In the year 2310, when Ellroher was half a century old, he traveled to Lothlorien with his aunt and sister. During this time, he met an Elf smith of Eregion, who had made many ancient weapons during the glory days of the Noldor and had even aided in the making of the Rings of Power. The smith taught Ellroher all he knew of smithing and forging. While living in Lorien, Ellroher grew and matured in both mind and body. But in the year 2460 of the third age, when the Watchful Peace ended with Sauron’s return to Dol Guldur, Ellroher and his sister were sent back to Rivendell.
Ellroher was 650 year old when he returned to Rivendell. Upon his return, Ellroher began to work on crafting two mighty Elven swords. It took him almost fifty years to forge the blades. He wanted them to be perfect and had to start over more than once. He completed his first sword in the year 2484. He gave it the name Malnar, which means Gold-Fire. The sword was embroidered with gold along the blade and handle. His sister, Elemmire, commented that since he was a twin that he should make a twin for the sword. Ellroher like this and over the next twenty year he forged a second sword. It he called Celebhelek, which means Silver-Ice. This sword he embroidered with Mithril along the blade and handle. Both blades glow when orcs are close.
During this time, Ellroher also spent a lot of time with his close friend, Lady Alatariel. He found that he had strong feeling for Alatariel, despite their age different and wanted to become more than just friends. But Alatariel though Ellroher’s feelings were misguided and tried to turn him away with reasoning. At the same time, Ellroher’s grandmother, Celebrian, was captured by orcs on a journey to Lothlorien. His Father and Uncle leave to hunt down the orcs, but do not allow Ellroher to go, saying that he was too young and it was too dangerous.
Ellroher was furious. He felt rejected by both the woman he thought he loved and by his own father. So in the year 2509, he left home and traveled south along the Misty Mountains and eventually reached Isengard. Isengard was still under the rule of Gondor and from there Ellroher decided to make his way south and see the White City.
On his way there, he came across a herd of horses. Among them was a horse the likes of which he had never seen. Ellroher approached it and called to it. The horse came to Ellroher and after some time, allowed the elf to mount him. After riding the horse some distance, a group of riders came and surrounded them. Ellroher found out that the horse he sat apond was Felarof, one of the maras, a horse that was only ridden by the King. They brought him before their king, Eorl the Young, the first King of Rohan, who was amazed that anyone could ride his horse. Ellroher became a close friend of the king and was put in charge of caring for his horse.
Ellroher lived in Rohan for almost 200 years serving the Kings and caring for their horses. But he found himself thinking of Rivendell and those he left there. Finally, in the year 2699, after the death of his dear friend, Goldwine, 6th king of Rohan, Ellroher decided that he had been away long enough. He had been growing weary in his heart after witnessing the curse of mortality. As a parting gift, Deor, son of Goldwine, gave to him a horse. The horse’s name was Goldhelm, one of the maras, because of Ellroher’s friendship with his father and the loyalty and service he had shown Rohan.
It was 2700 and Ellroher was now 900 years old when he returned home to Imladris. He approached Alatariel and asked her to forgive him for the way he had acted. But Alatariel had been very hurt by his actions. She refused to forgive him until he had proven himself worthy. It proved to be a long and awkward time before the two wear able to become friends again. But Ellroher had grown and matured and proved his worth. 100 years later, Alatariel found that she too had strong feelings towards Ellroher and they began to court.
Ellroher stayed in Rivendell and did not return to Rohan until he heard of Helm Hammerhand and the tragedy that had befallen Rohan. He left quickly with supplies and aid from Rivendell and helped restore Rohan after the Long Winter. Brytta, the 11th King of Rohan made Ellroher a knight of Rohan and granted him a large estate of land. The land given to him was Dunharrow and he made it into a place of refuge if tragedy ever struck Rohan again.
Brytta died in the year 2842. Ellroher traveled often to Rohan and Rivendell. Many times during his trips, Alatariel would go with him. She had become friends Saruman the White, who had taken up residence in Isengard and often went to visit him. Although it became increasingly dangerous to travel, Ellroher would still travel to Rohan until around 2953 when Thengel became king of Rohan. After that, trouble in Rivendell prevented him from returning to Rohan until the War of the Ring.
Just before the counsel of Elrond, Ellroher was charged with the task of reforgeing Narsil for Aragorn. For no one else in Rivendell had the skill to repair the blade like it had when it was first forged. So Ellroher repaired the sword and gave it to Aragorn just in time for him set out from Rivendell with the Ring bearer.
Both Alatariel and Ellroher were present at the counsel of Elrond, where they learned that Saruman had betrayed them. Alatariel was deeply hurt by this and rode off to Isengard to confront the wizard. Ellroher, concerned for Alatáriël’s safety, followed her and hid outside of Isengard. When Alatariel fled with orcs following close behind, Ellroher rode up behind the orcs and slew them. But he was not quick enough to prevent Alatariel from being shot during their escape.
During the War of the Ring, Ellroher, now 1200 years old and an excellent swordsman, often rode with his father and uncle and the Dunedain. When Elladan, Elrohir and the Dunedain went to Aragorn’s aid, Ellroher rode with them. When the Grey Company parted for the paths of the Dead, Ellroher stayed behind and rode instead with King Théoden and the Rohirrim. At the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, Ellroher stood with Eomer as he formed a last stand against the host of Mordor. It was in that hour that Ellroher looked out and saw the Corsairs of Umbar and those standing with lost all hope. But Ellroher laughed. For he saw at once the Standard of Elessar and knew that his father had come for the Paths of the Dead. Alatariel rode to Minis Tirith shortly after the battle was over and rode out to the Black Gate with him. There they fought side by side during in the final fight against Sauron.
After the War of the Ring, in the year 3020, Ellroher asked Alatariel to marry him and a year later they were married. Ellroher was made a Lord of Rohan and set to building Dunharrow into a great city. For many years, Ellroher build Dunharrow into both a fortress and a city that was claimed by some to be the most beautiful in Rohan.
