Fornost Erain
Sindarin- ‘Northern Fortress of the Kings of the North’
Was originally one of the chief cities of Arthedain. Located at southern end of the North Downs, roughly 100 miles from Bree. After it was abandoned it became known as Deadman’s Dike- where it was only visited by Rangers. During the 3rd Age- the abandoned crumbles of Fornost had already been hidden in grass, for nearly two thousand years.
When Fornost was founded, the King’s of Arnor moved to the site roughly, sometime before 861 T.A. This was when King Eärendur passed away and the regions of Arnor were divided into three kingdoms were Fornost became the Capital of one of the Greatest Cities of the time- Arthedain.
During T.A 1974, Arthedain was overrun by forces from Angmar- whom captured Fornost. In the following year, a fleet of Gondorian soldiers lead by Eärnur, landed in Mithlond. The army took on the forces of Angmar and won themselves a great victory- only the Witch King escaped.
Hence, after the coronation of Aragorn, when the Kingdoms of Gondor and Arnor were once again reunited the city was rebuilt and became, once more a place for man to dwell and reside happily.
