Weathertop
Sindarin- Amon Sûl “Hill of Wind”
The Southernmost and highest summit of the Weather Hills is ‘Weathertop’. Originally erected by Elendil in the Founding days- to hold one of the palantiri. At the time it lay within the central parts of Elendil’s northern domains (Eriador). After the breaking up of Arnor it was borderless and thus exposed and eventually destroyed by the invading armies of Angmar.
Rising over 1000 feet of level lands… and those around it. One of the great Watch towers of Middle Earth, during the days of Arnor. It overlooks the Great East Road, east of Bree- roughly midway between The Shire and Rivendell.
The Watch Tower and the fortifications of it were destroyed and burnt during 1409 T.A. However, the top is still flat and surrounded by a ring of large stones. There is a path, which lingers northwards and connects to another fortress of the Weather Hills.
In the 4th Age the tower was once again restored to Former glory by the world of men.
