Ellroher swam after her and reached the end of the pool the same time she did. Standing where it was shalow, Ellroher brushed the wet hair out of his eyes with his hand and began to ring out his wet clothes. He then layed down on the grass and closed his eyes, letting the sun dry him. "You know," Ellroher began without looking up. "There are hardly any Elflings left in Rivendell any more. I don't know why, but I miss the sounds of children laughing." He streached his arms out and then layed them behind his head. Ellroher layed quite for a long time, so long that he looked as if he were asleep. Without opening his eyes, he asked, "What about some of our own?"

Alatáriël pulled herself out of the water and began ring out some of the water in gown, although it only made it wrinkle. She did not plan to swim or otherwise she would have worn something older and that she didn't care much about anymore. She looked down at Ellroher who was laying on the grass. "Hardly any?" Alatáriël questioned. "If I am may correct you, there are none left." Her Steward's daughter was nearly grown and no longer a child, but before than, she had not seen a single Elfling since long before the war. Alatáriël sat on the ground next to Ellroher and ran her fingers through her wet hair, as if though trying to comb it out. His long silence made her wonder what he was thinking about. His question, however, caught her off guard. She turned her head and looked at Ellroher, not really sure how to respond. It was something she never thought about. But was he speaking to her or just outloud to himself?

Ellroher layed there with his eyes closed and breathing softly for another moment before opening one eye to look at Alatariel. He had just been thinking out lould but he saw that it had thrown Alatariel off gaurd. He closed his eye again and listened to the sounds of the water splash over the fall. Finally he sighed and rolled over onto his side and proped his head up against his arm. He looked up at his wife with a sleepy, care free look. "What about some of our own?" he repeated.

Alatáriël laid next to Ellroher and just looked into his eyes. She never thought about having any children. She had always believed that as well as she dwelled in Middle Earth, it wasn’t likely. Elves bearing children was very rare now, even marriage was starting to become a rare thing. She found herself questioning if she had the will to bring a child into the fading world. It was something she had to really think about it. Although wise, Alatáriël was very unsure. But even the wise could not answer all questions and sometimes needed guidance. She took Ellroher's hand and held it lightly. "To be honest, I am not sure," Alatáriël answered, hoping that he would understand. "It has never been something I've thought about, I am not saying I would never want any, I just do not know if I desire children right now."

Ellroher held Alatariel's gais and listen carefully to her words. He remained silent, carefully reading her face. At last he looked away at her hand. He gaised at it for a moment, turning it to one side and then the other. He turned it palm up, then layed his hand against it with fingers outstretched, as if to compare the two. His hand was much larger and rougher than hers. He had spent many years in Rohan, taming wild horses. His hands had become hard and callus. His thoughts suddenly came back to the present and he looked back at his wife's face. "Questions such as these cannot be made quickly." He said at last. "It may take a few hours, or a few years to decide the right answer." Ellroher smiled lovingly at Alatariel. He did not want to rush into this, but mearly get her opinion on the matter.

The two Elves gazed into each other's eyes for a while, and Alatáriël waited on a reply from her husband. When he finally broke his gaze and looked down, Alatáriël watched as Ellroher examined her hand, as if though he was trying to by time, looking for the right words. She entwined her fingers with his as he placed his hand against her own. Ellroher seemed to be very deep in thought, but appeared to have snapped out of it when he looked back at her, and Alatáriël smiled. She was glad that he understood. "I will put some thought into it," she replied.

"We will both put a lot of thought into it." Ellroher corrected as he smiled and kissed his wife's forhead. He layed back down and closed his eyes again. The sun had almost dryed his clothes and the gental splash of the water reminded him of his mother singing to him as she tucked him in at night. His thoughts then went to a later time, when he and his sister were older. Another skeem of theirs. They got in big trouble for that one. He remembered his mother's face as she shook her head and said.... Suddenly Ellroher laughed out lould. He looked over at Alatariel and continued laughing. "Alatariel, have you ever heard of a mother's curse?"

"Of course," Alatáriël said smiling back. She moved over closer to Ellroher, her body touching his and laid her head against his shoulder. She glanced over and saw her husband's eyes were once again closed and he became lost in his thoughts again. She had noticed that he thought over things pretty often lately, more than he had use to. She herself, had often been thinking more and more. "A mother's curse?" Alatáriël repeated. "No, I do think I have. Why do you ask?"

Ellroher kissed his wife's head again and tryed to regain control of himself again. Finally he said, "Alatariel, you must have been the best behaved Elfling ever if you don't know what a mother's curse is." Trying as best his could not to smile, Ellroher explained, "Me and my sister got into trouble all the time. Why we were not locked away untill we grew up I'll never know. Anyway, we had gotten in huge trouble, I don't even remember why. But my mother looked at me and Elemmire and said, 'Ellroher, Elemmire, I hope that one day you have children of your own, and that they put you through everything you have put me through.' Later, when father came home and heard what mother had said, he layed his hand on my shoulder and said, 'Son, you have received a worse punishment than any switch. You have receaved a Mother's curse. My mother put one on me when I was young. Now, your mother has put one on you, and there is nothing I can do for you.'" Ellroher held Alatariel close and cryed out, "I'm cursed, my love. If we ever have children, they are going to be as wild as I was." He wraped both arms around her and held her tight. With a mock scared look on his face he cryed, "Please don't leave me because I'm cursed!"

Alatáriël laughed. "I was more well behaved than most," she said. "I had pretty well brought up parents, but I cannot say I haven't done something that I shouldn't have. But you must have been the worse behaved Elfling." "Coming from your bloodline, I would've thought of your son being a little on the wild side, but all boys are wild, some more than others. It's normal for the son to be like his father and like it is for the daughter to be like the mother," Alatáriël said. She wrapped her own arms around Ellroher and held him back and laughed once again. "Oh, I cannot do that, I am bound to you now," Alatáriël said and kissed his cheek. "Even if that was possible, I wouldn't even think of it."

"If you think that daughter's take after their mothers, then you obviously have not been listening to the stories about my sister." Ellroher laughed. "Sometimes I'm not sure who dragged who into trouble, me or her." He smiled wide as Alatariel kissed him. "I knew I found the right woman to be my wife. And you remind me every day of what a good thing I've got." Ellroher held his wife in his arms, taking in her shining eyes and her beautifull smile. He leaned in and kissed her lips. They were as sweet as the finest wine, and softer than silk. Ellroher felt like he was in the Undying Lands of the Valar. When he finally pulled away, he smiled and said, "I love you Alatariel."

"Oh, I was listening," Alatáriël said. "However, your sister was too influenced by you, plus the fact she is your twin. Our daughter would not behave like that. I would be her mother afterall." She laughed. "Well, from all that I have heard, I would think that it's pretty equal." Alatáriël smiled and ran her fingers through Ellroher's hair. She looked into his eyes and said nothing in reply to his words. She could not think of anything. Returning his kiss, Alatáriël reached up and gently touched the pointed tip of his ear. She smiled back as he broke the kiss. "I love you too, Ellroher."

Ellroher laughed, "Yes, our daughter's mother will make sure that she behaves herself. But you have to remember, twins run in my family. We may have a son that corrupts the other to misbehaving." Ellroher smiled as Alatariel gently touched the pointed tips of his ears. That had always drove him wild. He returned the gesture and said, "Now isn't this much more fun than sitting around the throne room all day waiting for something to happen?" Ellroher kissed her again, longer this time, savoring the sweet taste of her lips.

"So I have noticed," Alatáriël said. "Lord Elrond had a twin, your father has a twin, you have twin...too many twins my love." Alatáriël laughed. "Ah, but they could be two little girls though," she said grinning. "And even if we did have a son, he wouldn't be running all the wild around here. Imagine what the Elves would think if their lady had a son who was out of control. But I hope not to continue that twin trend. Twins are too much to handle, I think," she said and randomly poked Ellroher's arm. Alatáriël smiled. "Of course it is, but afterall, I must do what I have to, even if it is sitting and waiting. I am happy with the moments I'm able to get away." Alatáriël kissed Ellroher back. She smiled lightly against it, then placed a hand to the back of his head and deepened the kiss.

Ellroher smile faded and he staired at Alatariel as her words slowly sank in. "Two daughters?" Then he started to laugh. "Oh, no, oh no, no, no." He said as he shook his finger at Alatariel. "No we're not going to joke like that now my love. Two daughters? You'd do that to me wouldn't you." He smiled and added. "Two sons or two daughters or one of each, I don't care what we get. I will love them the same. But probably not as much as I love you." Ellroher smiled as Alatariel placed her hand against the back of his head, deepening thier kiss. He in turn, ran his fingers through her hair and sliped his other arm around her waist, pulling her closer to him. Ellroher pulled away for a moment and looked at his wife and said, "Have I told you today how much I love being married to you?"
