At the end of the Third Age, before Lord Elrond had departed from the realm and sailed to the Undying Lands, he had offered Alatáriël Imladris to rule in his stand. She had been a loyal Steward and he believed she was able to rule the realm and do it well, and Alatáriël excepted and took the throne. At first the job seemed easy enough, but as time went on, keeping the realm alive had begun to prove difficult. Elrond bore Vilya, one of the three Elven Rings of Power, to protect and preserve the realm, she only had her own spiritual strength. Alatáriël was determined to not let Imladris fade, as long as herself and her kin dwelled in it.
After taking over the realm, Alatáriël had redecorated the room a little, by simply adding little things like flowers and new floor rugs for her own personal taste. But she kept most of Elrond's personal possessions where he had left them believing that it was not right to remove them.
Not many visitors came to Imladris anymore, or not much at all for that matter. The only company she had around most of the time is those who lived in Elrond’s home with her. Alatáriël raised from her throne and walked over towards the balcony. She leaned against the railing and at the sights around her. Imladris was quiet. Perhaps someone would pay her a visit today. Not much business took place in the Elven courts anymore.

"Tired of seeing countless royals today, Alatariel?" Ellroher said as he came up behind her and wraped his arms around her. He kissed her on the cheek and laughed. "Why don't we just tell the rest of them to go away so the Queen can have some time with her husband."

Alatáriël almost didn't notice Ellroher was there until he came up behind her and hugged her. It was then that she snapped out of her thoughts. She could not help but smile even though it almost seemed like it was forced. "Nay, my love," she replied. "No meetings of any sort today. This lady is free for the day." Alatáriël rested her hand in her chin and continued to gaze out. "I suppose I am just weary."

Ellroher looked at Alatariel with concern. He released her and stood beside her, looking out over Rivendell. Finaly he said, "Weary. That is not a discription I would use to discribe the Queen of Rivendell. Nay, Rivendell is a place where the weary come to find new strenght." He reached out and took her hand in his and just held it, as if to remind her that she could tell him anything that troubled her and that he was there for her.

Alatáriël looked back and Ellroher. For a brief moment, she did not know what to say. At one time, Imladris was a place of refuge for the weary, but with the new age and few Elves lingering in the land she always called home, it often made her think. Alatáriël held Ellroher's hand in return and gripped it lightly. "Much has changed since the war."

Ellroher nodded. He knew well how the war had changed Middle-Earth. He had been there. "It has change." He said in agreement. "It seems that with the destruction of the Ring, the elves no longer have a perpuse to stay in Middle-Earth. Why do we stay here? What is left for us to do?" The question was directed at no one in particular. Ellroher remained silent for a moment, deep in thought. "I do not believe that the time of the Elves is over." He said at last. "I think that we still have some part left to play in Middle-Earth. What that is, I do not know." He smiled at Alatariel and said, "But I know I want you with me when that time comes."

Alatáriël had asked herself those same questions before, and yet, she never really thought of an answer. Each elf has their on purpose. Some left long even before their time ended, and there were those who remained, with their own reasons. Alatáriël smiled back. "Our time will come one day," she said. "But for now, we still have a purpose here."

Ellroher looked back out over Rivendell and sighed. Not one weariness or of despair, but one of restlessness. Like a child being told that his birthday is still two weeks away. He was anxious to do something. He needed to do something to keep himself busy. He turned back to Alatariel and smiled, "Since you don't have any more meetings today, Why don't we go for a walk in the gardens."

Alatáriël could sense that Ellroher was restless. She learned to pick that up rather quickly. Perhaps a walk would take her mind of some things, even though sometimes, no matter how much she tried to distract her mind, some thoughts just would not leave, but she had learned how to handle it. "Actually," Alatáriël began. "I would like to go somewhere else today. A place that I have not visited in quite some time now."
