Alatáriel often now keeps her on display in her chambers, having much use for it anymore. However, if she is away from the realm, she does carry it with her.
Alatáriel’s father was a master archer, and a bow was his preferred weapon, but he was still skilled with a sword. Alatáriel learned to shoot a bow long before she learned to wield a sword. Detailed History
Born sometime around the year 61 of the Third Age, Alatáriel was left an orphan after her parents had mysterious disappeared. None have any knowledge of their fate. She was brought to Imladris and was temporarily fostered by Elrond until an Elf couple, who had lost their own daughter decided to foster the infant and raise her as their own. Alatáriel had always known that they were not her birth parents. She had said something of it even before they had even informed her of such information. It was then that they learned of her mental abilities. She had many questions, but there were no answers to those questions. Her bloodline is nothing but a mystery. Her foster father was a former warrior with a hard attitude and always expected his daughter to do her best. He trained her in swordsmanship and archery. Her foster mother was a kind and gentle soul who loved animals and flowers. She taught Alatáriel the skill of tending to the earth's creatures with spiritual strength.
Alatáriel was long time friends with the twins, Elladan and Elrohir, the sons of Elrond, having been close in age to them. She often thought of them as brothers. She had an older cousin but no siblings. Most had a difficulty telling them apart for they were very alike in personality and not just their appearance. Alatáriel was one of the few who could tell them apart and not just because she knew them well, but because she had the mental ability to see through to them.
When Elrohir's children were born in the year 1810, Alatáriël was one of the first outside of the family to visit the elflings. It was soon after that Elrond had taken Alatáriël into his home to study elven lore. She also learned the Common Language why under Elrond's study. Alatáriël's work and study was often distracted due to the wild antics and the curious mind of Elrohir's son, Ellroher. She found herself baby-sitting him just as much as she studied, if not more.
During the year 1975, Alatáriel's father rode off to war to battle against the Witch-king's armies in the Battle of Fornost. However, Alatáriel had a bad premonition and tried to talk him out of fighting, or allow her to go to war with him, but her father would not agree either one. Going against his wishes, Alatáriel disguised herself as a male and took up the alias Dimaethor. She rescued her father from certain death, but her true identity was found out when he wished to look upon the warrior that saved him. At first, he was angry that his daughter had disobeyed him, but was later grateful that she came to his aid. Alatáriel broke her left arm in the battle.
Sometime around the year 2461, Alatáriel developed a close friendship with Ellroher, Son of Elrohir. But then later on Ellroher had taken a much deeper liking to her and wanted to court her. Alatáriel believed that his feelings were misguided. She could not give him what he desired. It was not because of the age gap in general, but more of where the age gap was. In Alatáriel's eyes, she saw Ellroher as too young. She was nearly two and a half millennia, and he was only a little over half. Not feeling the same towards him or believing that it was appropriate, she tried to turn him away the best she could with reasoning, but Ellroher took off in a fit, not giving her the chance to speak.
During the year 2685, Alatáriel was made a high ranking council Member in Elrond's home, standing just one rank below his chief counselor, Erestor. Her work often kept her busy and mind focused on matters within and outside the realm. She was present at the White Council during the year 2851 and at the Council of Elrond during the year 3018. She then moved into the Last Homely House when given her new job and was given her own private room.
When Ellroher returned to Imladris after dwelling in Rohan for 200 years, Alatáriël was approached by him, asking for her forgiveness for how he had acted before he had left. Alatáriel was angry at his behavior and wasn't able to forgive him at first. She demanded that he prove himself worthy to earn her forgiveness and her friendship back and would not speak with him until then.
Although the process was slow and a little awkward, the two became friends again. Alatáriel knew that Ellroher still had the desire to court her and over a period of time, her own feelings began to change, but they held off courting until the year 2810, when Ellroher was 1000 years pass.
During the year 2842, she met Saruman the Wise (whom she called Curunír) and became friends with the wizard, often journeying to Isengard to visit him. Every so often during her visits, he would teach her the skill of magic. She practiced whenever possible, whether under his watch or during her own time at home.
However, over time, Alatáriel grew a little concerned over Saruman's strong interest in the study of ring lore. He assured her there was nothing to worry about and she believed him, never thinking that a wizard would lie.
Alatáriël felt greatly deceived and betrayed when upon hearing that he had joined forces with Sauron. She rode out to Isengard and confronted him. Saruman tried to lure the elleth into joining the dark side but she refused and tried to console the wizard with wisdom, but he tired of her words and attacked her. Alatáriel fled from Isengard and was trailed by a small band of Saruman's Orcs. She managed to escape and make it back to Imladris but received an arrow in her back during her escape. She never saw the old wizard again, but he had managed to find a way to get into her and attempt to control her mind, but his attempts failed for she was more stronger than he thought. Although he could not gain any physical control over her, he still could taunt and manipulate her thoughts, as if to push her to point of madness. It took the efforts of Gandalf, to drive Saruman out.
During the War of the Ring, many Elves had left Imladris, Alatáriel's parents being among them. She announced to them that was not to sail with them, but to remain behind, not feeling that it was not her time to leave and head out to war and battle against the Dark Lord. Although not entirely happy with their daughter's decision, they supported her need to fight anyway. Her father knew his only child and daughter was a warrior.
Alatáriel stayed in behind in Imladris to farewell her parents off on the their journey to the Grey Havens, while the twins and Ellroher rode out to the encampment at Dunharrow. She met up with them later in Minas Tirith, then marched towards the Black Gate along their sides. She was severely wounded in battle and was brought to the White City where Aragorn attempted to heal her but she was beyond his reach and only Elrond could save her. He ordered her to be sent back to Imladris. She lay bedridden for a couple of weeks, recovering from her injuries. Although she was not recovered fully, she was well enough return to Minas Tirith to attend Aragorn's coronation ceremony and his marriage to Arwen.
Alatáriel returned to Imladris along with Elrond, the twins and Ellroher in late September of the year 3019. The following spring of the year 3020, Ellroher asked for her hand in marriage and they were wed in the spring of year 3021.
During the summer of year 3021, before Elrond had left Middle-earth forever, Imladris was handed to her and Ellroher to rule in his stand. Alatáriel had appointed the former Galadhrim captain and friend, Haldir, as her Steward who now resides in Elrond's former home with her, along with Haldir's adopted daughter, Itarildë.
Fears
Losing those that she loves and failing to protect her home.
Strengths
Alatáriel is a born mentalist. She can read the minds of others and know what they are feeling. This skill is an advantage. The safety and security of her people is a priority and she cannot always trust everyone that comes into realm, especially when she does not either know their face, or have not heard of their name. Although it not uncommon for an Elf to be able to see through to another, her ability is actually more powerful than most. She also has some level of foresight, but the skill is lesser than other Elves, only able to see things that are most dire, just as she saw her that father would fall in war, but she had eluded that fate.
She is quite spiritual in nature and does have some skill in magic, but she does not use it, for she learned the skill from Saruman and sees it as evil and refuses to use for any purpose. Her mother was very spiritual in nature and understood the ways of the creatures of nature such as plants and animals. She was able to heal such creatures spiritually and Alatáriel had learned such skills over time and she uses it in an attempt to keep Imladris from decaying with time. Alatáriel’s skill in magic are to a minimum, only knowing simple and basic things for she had no interest in the more advanced magic.
Alatáriel spent her earlier years in Elrond’s home as a scholar, so she is highly intelligent of the world’s history, it’s people and the current happenings. It is a common trait amongst the Noldor, a desire to gain knowledge. She is skilled in language and is fluent in Westron as well the old Noldorin language, Quenya, although is it no longer spoken. Such a high knowledge makes her seem older than she really is and at times she can be mistaken as such. Although it seems flattering, Alatáriel finds it insulting. She is also a skilled flute player.
Weaknesses
Being a mentalist, it leaves Alatáriel feeling alone in the world, for such an ability can be one's enemy, as well as their friend. She skills in wizard's magic doesn't make her anymore liked by outsiders, particulary mortals. They fear her as much as they had feared Galadriel.
Alatáriel has a problem with self doubt. She at times thinks that she lacks the ability to lead her people and keep them happy. She likes to believe that there is another who better qualified to rule the land, but she knows that there is not. She questions her power and her abilities and on a rare occasion. She at times views them as burdens rather than gifts for such power can sometimes bring more ill than it can good even though her intend of use of her powers are for the good of her people, but they can drive others away.
She spends more time focusing on the well-being of her people, but not much on the well-being of herself. Alatáriel sacrifices herself for the goodness of her people. She believes a good ruler puts her people before themselves, no matter what. She is a little lonely, but Alatáriel would never admit such and she keeps it well hidden within her. Although she has many loyal servers, she doesn’t see any of them as a close friend and Alatáriel lacks close friendship with another, for all her friends had left Imladris. She would have more confidence in herself and pay more mind to herself if she had at least one companion.
Alatáriel is very stubborn and she will refuse to ask for aid from anyone, even when it is needed. She would much prefer to take matters into her own hands and solve a problem on her own, rather than humble her Noldorin pride and seek help. But if she is offered aid, Alatáriel will accept it, for she believes it to be rude to refuse someone willing to help, but she won’t ask for anymore than what she is given. She likes to think that she can solve any issue but doesn’t fully realize that she cannot solve every problem of her own.
