Cristin carried her effortlessly to the fire and knelt down with her still in his arms. He then gently laid her onto the ground. His hands were gentle and his touch was soft on her delicate skin. He was reluctant to move her from his grasp, but he knew he must. " Should we return to the house?" He asked as he kissed her forehead.

She sat up, then stood, brushing off her pants as she did so. Not romantic, but she was getting wet. Make that wetter. "Yes, now that everything is covered in rain," she said. Picking up the sleepy dragon, she held him close to her in her slender arms, stroking his wings. The fire had burned down to nothing but coals, dark red and flickering. She looked over at the rock where she had laid the fish, noting the claw marks on the soft turf and the absence of any food. Smiling down and reptilian form in her arms, she nudged his thick midsection gently. Greedy litte Sentinel.

Cristin nodded his head and moved over behind her and kept his arm around her waist as they began to walk to her house. It was an uphill walk, and it was a little slippery because the rain reached the hill and the slopes. Summer rain was weird like that. After a few minutes Cristin reached her house and opened the door for Kayla and then closed it once they were inside as it began to rain once again. There was a rythmic sound of the rain beating against the roof. " Are you going to be all right?" Cristin asked. He had a feeling that Kayla had returned to her full self.

She turned, dragon in her arms, and gave him a real smile this time. "Yes, I'm alright," she replied, "I just let my jealousy get the best of me. I'm sorry." She walked over to the couch and laid Sentinel on it. He stirred slightly, shifting his gossamer wings and twitching his long tail. Then he slumbered once more. She stood there for a few minutes, arms crossed, watching him sleep. He would kill her if she ever said he was cute or adorable, but she just couldn't help it. He was just so cute!

Cristin watched Kayla lay Sentinel down on the couch and he smiled. He sighed and walked down the hall. He couldn't help but think he did something wrong. He walked down the hall and stopped, looking into Kayla's room. He smiled, thinking of the good memories there. He then closed the door softly and quietly and traveled a bit further to the spare room and opened the door. He found his way to the bed and lay down on it. He put his hands over his face, thinking, thinking about everything.

Kayla heard his retreat to the hall, and she stayed a bit longer, watching the dragon sleep. Finally, she silently treaded down to her room. Finding it empty, she figured he was in the spare room. She sat on the edge of the bed, still unmade. Slowly she put her hand over the depression on Cristin's side, remembering. She debated going to find him, to tell him it was all going to be okay. But it wasn't. What if his fiance was alive somewhere? What if....what if she wanted him back? Kayla knew if the situation were reversed, she would want him back. And the other woman had first claim. Kayla slowly laid down, her head where Cristin's once was, and curled up, hands around her knees, thinking.

The night faded away and the sun rose in the sky the next morning. However, this day, Cristin was no where to be found in Kayla's home. In his bed, in the spare room where he had been for a while earlier that night before he made up his mind, there was a letter, a note: My dearest Kayla, I can not bare to see you cry and I can not bare the pain of knowing that it was I that caused you so much pain. I have gone to answer some questions about myself, to find what i have been looking for. My return is uncertain, for i do not wish to pain you further by my past that i can not predict or begin to explain to you. But perhaps you should know, that the woman in my dreams is no more and with her my child. Nothing else i know.
Yours forever, Cristin

Kayla woke up the next morning, resolute in the descision she had made. She would love Cristin, no matter what, but if he still loved that woman, she would let him go. She had come to this late in the night, and afterwards had fallen into a deep, dreamless sleep brought on by exhaustion. The sun streamed into the front room as she stepped out into the hall. "Cristin?" she called softly. It was after dawn; surely he would be up. She walked to the spare room and knocked gently on the door. No answer. Opening it slowly, all she saw was the bed, made and neat. Walking over, she picked up the note. As she read it, a single tear slowly welled in her eye and fell, leaving a wet stain on the page. It was soon followed by another, then another. Coming to the end, Kayla sat down on the bed with a creak. Then she slowly held the only thing left of her love to her chest and began to cry.

Cristin was walking through the forest now, following no particular path, just using his memory to recall different trees and landmarks so that he could return to the city that he had found earlier. He had such a desire to explore the room he had failed to break into. He wondered what was inside. He wondered if there was some untapped power, some sort of scroll as to his past. He wanted to know, and not so much for his sake, but for Kayla's as well. He knew he loved her, but he also knew that it would be difficult for her to show the same affection that he did because of the other woman. There would be so many questions, so many concerns. He wanted to get everything sorted out so that maybe, just maybe he could live a good life with Kayla, have children of his own and do with them all the things he could not remember doing himself. Ah, there was a clearing now and it was all becoming clear to him. He was remembering. But something was different, the foliage was well worn and paths could be seen caused by many feet. What could have caused this? As Cristin reached the meadow, he saw why.

After a while, Kayla sat up, wiping her tears away. Sniffing a bit, she stood up and smoothed her clothes. Going out the door, letter in hand, she went to the main room, where Sentinel lay on the couch. He gazed at her sadly. He had been there when Cristin had left, but he hadn't stopped him. He hadn't tried. Seeing the redness in Kayla's face and the sadness in her eyes, he regretted his decision. He slowly moved over, making space for her to sit. And sit she did, taking him in her arms. She just held him as she began to cry once more. "He's gone, Sentinel, and I don't know where." she said shakily, "gone."

" Damn " Cristin cursed. He had good reason to because what stood before him was something that was not to be rivaled, certainly not by one man, even if it was an elf. Several hundred uruk with a Ringwraith commander stood in front and around the hole that Cristin had made. He had no idea how many uruk were already inside of the city and from the looks of it, they weren't planning to leave any time soon. They had even gone through the trouble of making a few makeshift tents, barricades and some fires had already started or were still burning. Cristin felt a breeze blowing towards him and he hoped it kept in that direction. If the uruk caught his sent then he would have to fight them all, alone. He sank low to the ground and watched. He needed to get into that city.

After a while Sentinel slowly pulled back, causing Kayla to look at him with teary eyes. 'Listen,' he thought to her, 'I know you're upset, but you are Kayla! No mere man can just walk out on you! He needs to realize that you love him, and that he loves you! I will go and find him. You stay here and pull yourself together. I will tell you when I find him.' Going out the door without a backwards glance, Sentinel took to the trees. Climbing up his 'thinking tree', he surveyed the land. He saw no sign of the elf, only smoke in the distance. Smoke? That was strange. And from more than one campfire it looked like. He figured that was as good a starting place as any and began to head there at a swift rate, jumping from bough to bough with delicate ease, tail balancing him.

The wind continued to blow towards Cristin and he remained on the ground, crawling very slowly and lightly. It was a good thing that it had rained or this would have been more difficult. Cristin rolled underneath a rotting elm tree that had fallen probably a year ago. He had a good view now of what was going on. The uruk were indeed exploring the city. He could see the ladders going into the hole and the uruk coming out and going in. He cursed again and looked around. He was a in a dip in the ground and a thought occurred to him. The city was massive, it had to stretch for a couple of miles and if that was true than the city was underneath him. Cristin drew his sword and and it turned into sithe, the best digging weapon. He then began to slowly dig into the ground, wondering how far he would have to dig before he reached the city.

The dragon finally reached the source of the smoke and stopped. Ugliness met his eyes. There were large, disgusting-looking brutes that had to be a thousand in number surrounding the hole he recognized as the entrance to the city. Cristin had to have seen this. In fact, he probably came back here, hoping to find out more about his past. Sure enough, his bright eyes caught movement near the edge of the forest. From the dull light of sun on armor, he knew it had to be the elf. He had probably magicked his armor back on after he left. Skulking around the line of the forest, he eventually stared right down at him. He was digging frantically, crouched near a pit he had obviously made himself. Coming down from the tree, Sentinel peered over Cristin's shoulder. "Not much, is it?" he commented dryly.

Sentinel was lucky that Cristin's sithe was in the ground when he spoke because if it hadn't been there would have been a repeat of what had happened before. Cristin turned around, adrenaline taking him immediately. He lurched out but drew back when he saw Sentinel. " How did..." Oh never mind Cristin said. Figuring that he had come on his own accord or Kayla had sent him. That was an interesting thought. It showed that Kayla really did care for him. Cristin though of this as he kept digging, " No, but it is the only way i can get into that city, considering that way is...blocked." Cristin said, looking back at the uruk with disgust. He then turned to Sentinel as he dug, " Where is Kayla? Tell me she is at home." Cristin said.
