Rawhide's expression did not change exsecpt for his eyebrow to raise slightly. He looked at Kriat with an amused smile and asked, "Should I have an idea? I seem to be out of the loop as it were. Please, fill me in." Although his expression still hadn't changed, Rawhide's tone said that it was no request, it was an order.

"Oh no, i'm afaid i can't do that...you see, then i would be executed, and thats not something i plan on doing." He smirked. "The power's i serve are much stronger than you'rs Captian, and if you don't know about them, then I'm not the one who's going to tell you."

Rawhide stroked his mustash with his hand as he thought over Kriat's responce. He was getting nowhere. Rawhide stared hard at the man and asked, "Where do your loyalties lie, Kriat? With Rhun and her ruling Queen? Or to someone else?" Rawhide reached down to scratch his leg and realized suddenly that he was reaching for his boot knife. He scratched his leg and brought his hand up empty. Still stroking his mustash, Rawhide added another question. "Would you think it wise that I trust you?"

"With Rhun of course Captian...except we're the ones who rule the Queen" he laughed coldly "Would you think it wise that I should trust a man out of favour with Her, one that we hear such...intresting rumours about?"

Rawhide continued to stroke his mustash as he eyed Kriat. He returned Kriat's cold laugh with one of his own. "I find that rumours are an exelent way to discover who one's friends really are. And a great way to throw people off." Rawhide stood and walked to the window and looked out. It was a clear night, peaceful and lovly. Still looking out the window, Rawhide asked, "Kriat, Do you think that you and two squads of men could raid another barracks, take some weapons, and return here with out getting caught?"

"If they were my, sorry captain, i ment the men in my squad." He replied slyly. "As you gave permission to speak freely may i ask why?"

Rawhide continued to stare out the window at the night sky. "First because, besides myself and the Master Sargent, I don't think that any of these recrutes have had any real combat expereonce." Rawhide turned from the window to look at Kriat's reaction. As he expected, there was none, save for the sly smile he always had. Looking again outside, Rawhide continued with a heavy sigh. "And, I don't think that the Lt. will be succesful in aquireing the weapons and armor that I sent him to get. I think that he will be told that such items are, shall we say, 'out of stock.' Rawhide turned and looked Kriat in the eyes. "These men are ready to do more than just work out. They need to have some hard drills and fighting style training. I can't train them without weapons." Rawhide closed his eyes and took a deep breath before continuing. "I may need you to get some weapons for me. At least 36 of each type. Swords, long pikes, short pikes, and bows. That way I can train at least three squads at a time without the other nine doing nothing. If the Lt. can not get the weapons, do you think you could, without getting caught?"

"Of course, secrecy is the first thing i was trained in." he answered, before a look of horror spread acrosse his face. He had said too much, enough for anyone with a brain to guess at anyway. Turning away from Rawhide he said agressivly. "And why should i do that, why should i help you?"

Even though he hadn't seen Kriat's face as he answered, Rawhide could hear in his voise that he had said somthing that he hadn't ment to. Rawhide turned and stared at Kriat as a small smile began to apear on his face. "Becuase, I don't think that you can turn down the chalenge. I am asking you for help, your commanding officer is asking you for help. You can't pass up a chance to prove that your better than me. And as you already said," Rawhide added, his smile becomeing sly, "Secrecy was the first thing you were trained in. Do I paint a correct picture?"

Krait spun round quickly and stared at him, a his hidden emotions on full veiw for once. His eyes held anger, guilt and, could it be? Yes, a definate undertone of fear. He turned away agin hiding his face against the wall. "Fine." His voice shook "I'l do it...what do you want."

Rawhide just smiled. ¨¨I will need 36 swords, 36 long shafted pipes, 36 short shafted pikes, and 36 bows. You may take any three squads of men that you think will be successful. Make sure that you are not caught.¨¨Rawhide warned, ¨¨I would hate to lose such a solder like yourself. Dismist.¨¨ Rawhide sad back down behind his desk and lit his pipe.

While he had spoken Krait had unconsiousey dug his nails into the wall so that they bled as he scraped out the shape of a snake in the plaster, unaware of what he was doing. Rawhide finished speaking, and he suluted slowly. "Yes....sir." But it was not the sarcastic sir of before, it was a 'sir' from a man who knew he was beaten and there was nothing he could do about it.

The next day continued like it had the last few weeks. After the first run, Rawhide met with the Lt., and was not surprised when he said, "Supply had denided us the equipment. They say that we are at a lower priority and that we should reseve the weapons in about three months." Rawhide shook his head. He knew that this was going to happen. But perhaps it was for the best. Now he could test the skill and loyalty of his men. "Sargent!" Rawhide called out. "The scedual for today has changed. Find 12 men that have had hand to hand combat expereonce or training and apoint them as squad leaders. For the rest of today, and for the rest of the week, we are going to be running through hand to hand combat drills." As the Master Sargent went through the ranks finding new squad leaders, Rawhide walked over to Kriat and whispered, "You have three days to train your squad as best you can. Then pick out two more squads that you think are up to the mission. Don't let me down, Sargent Krait."

He stared after Rawhide with digust. He had betrayed the Guild, he knew that. But now it looked like he had been bribed with power, he was a Tatteyen, not some Queen's Sargent. Aye he would get Rawhide his weopans....then the fool would be able to defend himself. He moved perposefully though the men, takeing some that had already been chosen by others, but mainly men he lived with. Withing a few minits twelve of them stood in pairs, not running though the combat drills the other squads were, but drills based on stealth and cunning.
