Nodonn raised his head, the firelight caught deep in their depths for a moment, as he rose, passing the others like a dream. he stepped to the outer edge of the sentries patrol. Before him, under the moon, a west wind flattened the long grass like silver. His boots brushed against it , but almost soundless, so quietly did he go, beyond the light of the camp and the sound of a harp and murmuring voices.

Deth rose from the grasses like a ghost, but the moon shot his hair into bright silver, he walked towards Nodonn with a graceful, casual stride. ' Father, ' He said, stopping a foot from him. Do you want to tell me what happened? ' he tilted his head to one side, waiting, a smile, ice-cold, curved his lips.

For perhaps the only time in his life, Nodonn was completely taken aback, - he had fallen reflexively and automatically into a fighting stance, but although he maintained it , the words metophorically slapped him in the face. He stared at the young man, at first, certain he was insane, - and indeed he did see insanity inthose eyes, but he knew... that this one spoke truth. This was his son. His eyes narrowed. ' believe me, I would if I could, ' then his eyes flared open again. ' My daughter? Absoloutly not, ' he said, emphatically. ' look you, boy, I do not have any morals to speak of, but I would damn well know it I had swived my own daughter, '

' She knows you are the father, ' Deth smiled, coldly, ' I told her, when I found her, and I saw who it was who got me, - but she does not know how, and now you expect me to believe that you do not? You need me to explain the facts of a man and a maid, father? '

Quicker than a whiplash, Nodonn backhanded him across the face, ' Do not speak thus to me, you little b$stard, but this I will get to the bottom of, you are coming with me, now, to your mother, I want to look into her mind, ' he gave him a shove.

Legolas had seen , in the moonlight, the two elves, and their sedden disapearance, and ran towards them, but stopped dead, ' Was that not your aqauintance? ' he inquired, looking around, ' where would he have gone? '

'' I have been asking myself that question - on and off, for about nine thousand years, '' Murmured Fingolfin, looking across the now empty grassland that ran towards the River Anduin. '' And when I finally manage to speak with him - I will get my answer. He has business with that visitor, private, I would imagine, '' he turned and looked at Legolas. '' Those who came to Valinor after the War of the Ring, spoke of you, Prince Legolas. I believe your grandfather, Oropher, was of Doriath, in the Elder Days? ''

Legolas nodded, but his senses still reached out, sight, hearing, and that elvish sense of just feeling the very atmosphere around them. ' yes, hir nin, , I did not know him, but my father told me much of Doriath, it sounds dreamlike... it's end was a great shame upon the Eldar, '' Its end had come at the hands actually, of Fingolfins nephews, the sons of Feanor, but Legolas did not blame Fingolfin, he had been slain before that. '' The Halls of my father , Thranduil, were an attmept to copt Menegroth, but he said nothing ever could ape that ''

'' No, I never saw it, but they were supposed to be the fairest dwellings of any east of the Great Sea '' Fingolfin said, '' and yes, you do not need to tell me that the kinslayings were a great evil, son of Thranduil - was I not at Alqualonde? ' He looked around, turned then, began to walk back to the encampment. '' So, Legolas? tell me something more i this world? And yourself. Are you wed? ''

' The world... well... it seems to go in cycles, hir nin, Sauron was defeated - and my part in that was probably the least, but I was honoured to help my friend to his throne, and now new evils arise . ' he paused and shook his head, smiling ' Nay, I am not married. My father did desire me to be , but since he has left for Valinor, and I am not the King - I see no need. ' he looked towards the tents, thinking of the golden haired Rohirrim woman. Elven women were always, almost boringly, beautiful, - Anwyn had something they often lacked, an inner fire. That really was why he had never married, he was exacting, he knew what he wanted, intelligence, and beauty - a greater degree than average, and fire in the blood. ' You have sons, lord Fingolfin..? ' he made it into a question, since there was no evidence of a wife anywhere in the camp, and he could not remember Fingolfins wife being spoken of at all in the tales of the Elder Days.

'' A long time ago, my wife was Anaire, '' Fingolfin said, with no feeling in his voice, '' she gave me fine sons, but our marriage did not last the Oath, she remained in Valinor and after my rebirth, there was no love left, in the sight of Manwe and Varda, our marriage was annulled. It's a dull dog, after all , marriage, I did not lack company when I was High King, '' he smiled a little, '' what about yourself? ''

Legolas smiled, '' Oh a few, here and there, nothing serious, just enjoyment, no-one I wished to marry, my father said I was too choosy, and perhaps that is true, I have a very clear idea of my ideal lady, but in over two thousand years, I have never met her, or even any-one close. Beautiful, intelligent, mature, funny, fiery, - and then that certain sort of something which I suppose is allure, or charm, which so few people have, either men or women, but it does not bother me, if I find some-one I will, if not, then I will just .. * enjoy * myself , now and then. ''

Fingolfin nodded, he felt much the same. '' I was married in my early youth, many of us were then, when everything seemed as if the glory would never end, and we wished to have many children born into the bliss of Valinor , of course my brothers marriage failed, Feanors, and Fingons...later, and Turgon lost Elenwe in the Helcaraxe. But the passion had burned out by the time I left , following Feanor, and the women who did come, were the best and lovliest, and the most courageous, so I had few lonely nights. '' he looked around. '' Anything? '' he asked briefly.

( depends entirely on whether Andereesin is still posting )
Legolas nodded, his hair turned to pale silver as the wind took it, '' the eaves of the forest - ah one day, I will make it my life to cleanse Mirkwood, so it may be as it was when I was young. '' He glanced back to Fingolfin. '' Meeting you is as when I met Glorfindel - meeting a legend, '' he paused, '' what...I suppose every-one always asks you of your battle with.. Morgoth? ''

Fingolfins face became more still, the moonlight might have shone on something carved from fine marble, and his fingers closed a little on his sword hilt, but he said, keeping his voice calm. ' Ay, prince, I find people do ... inquire as to that battle.... often, ' his tone, however, was not encouraging. ' I died, ' he said.
